The Dissident

Hua Liu, a 60-year-old Chinese woman, is helped by her daughter to obtain a long-stay visa and spend her retirement with her family, especially Paul, her grandson whom she never knew. A committed poet, she gives a clandestine reading in a Chinese restaurant. That day, a man in a suit confiscates all her books. After picking Paul up from school, she is summoned by a mysterious office to retrieve “an important document.”
