In 2023, aware that culture in Portugal tends to concentrate in Lisbon and wanting to take the festival to other cities, Triste Para Sempre partnered with SHE – Sociedade Harmonia Eborense for two days in Évora, a film cycle screening only Portuguese films from past editions of the festival. To keep momentum at home, Triste also collaborated with a new cultural space in Lisbon, Casa do Comum.

In Évora, Triste held two sessions on different weekends, on 3 and 24 November. On the 3rd, a session screened the winning feature film “Alcindo” by Miguel Dores, followed by a conversation between the festival’s producers, members of SHE and the audience. On the 24th, a programme of Portuguese short films explored loss, escape and searching - beginning with “Antes de Mim, o Fim” by Inês Luís, “Beco do Imaginário” by Romano Cassellis, “Alexandria” by Luís Miguel Pereira and Thiago Carvalho, “Chama-se Carla” by Cátia Biscaia, and “Mulher como Árvore” by Flávio Ferreira, Helder Faria, Alejandro Vázquez, Daniela Cajías and Carmen Tortosa. Filmmaker Romano Cassellis attended and led a post-screening conversation.

In December, those sessions were repeated at Casa do Comum, in Bairro Alto. After the screening of “Alcindo” by Miguel Dores on the second day of the extension, Mamadou Ba — anti-racist activist and head of SOS Racismo — and Miguel Dores, the film’s director, spoke with the audience.
